Considering Radiant Heat?

I'm here to help you!

I'm Steve Haldi - AKA "RadiantSteve" - a radiant design consultant specializing in residential and light commercial in-floor radiant heat projects.   If you're at all interested in radiant heating and an economical, do-it-yourself approach - I can help.

I've worked with hundreds of homeowners, contractors and architects on heating projects from a few hundred square feet to tens of thousands.  Although most of my design work is for in-floor projects in North America, I've been involved on several projects in Japan, Hawaii and South America.  Everyone deserves access to the comfort and effectiveness of radiant heat.

So what's the big deal about radiant heat anyway?

We're creatures of comfort - I know, it's a cliche` - but it's true.  We spend a lot of time, effort and energy trying to get - and stay - comfortable.  Most of us can tell when we're comfortable and when we're not, but few of us ever think about why.

The key concept is called thermal comfort.  Basically, we're comfortable when our bodies are releasing heat at the same rate as we produce it.  Our bodies transfer heat in four different ways.

1) Evaporation
2) Convection
3) Conduction
4) Radiation or radiant

Interestingly enough, if you were to chart the human thermal comfort requirements and compare that curve to the output of various heating solutions (like forced-air, radiators, baseboards and in-floor radiant) you'd find that the output of a radiant heating system is an almost identical match to our thermal comfort curve.

Simple enough, but why would I want radiant heat?

>  Comfort - Imagine warm floors on a cold morning, there's nothing else like it.
>  Energy efficiency - Whether you're "building green" or trying to reduce your "carbon footprint," radiant is an effective way to reduce your energy consumption without sacrificing comfort.
>  Unsurpassed zone flexibility - that's right, precise thermostat control for different areas of your home.
>  Eliminate cold areas, drafts and uneven heat distribution.
>  In-floor radiant is a virtually slient heating system
>  If you're concerned about your indoor environment - there's no dust and no allergens blowing around with in-floor radiant.

Pause for just a moment and think about this:

Do you ever wake up in the morning, put your feet on a cold floor and wish the floor was warm?

When you think about your basement, do you think of it as uncomfortable and cold?

Have you noticed your utility bills creeping up - found yourself setting the thermostat lower and dreamed of finding a way to save energy without sacrificing comfort?

Well, you don't have to wish, dream or think about it any longer - you can enjoy the benefits of radiant heat.  I'm here to help you make it happen.

Sounds great, what do you do?

In a nutshell, I hear from people who get quotes of $8 to $12 per square foot for a radiant heating installation.  Some people have that kind of money, but I don't.  If it took a brain surgeon or rocket scientist to install radiant heat, maybe it'd be worth it.  But it doesn't take a rocket scientist to put in radiant heat.

So I help people get over the radiant design hurdles and offer simple and practical in-floor radiant heat solutions.
